When I was a small child, doctors from a university medical school told my parents they could offer no hope of my recovery. The doctors weren't sure what the disease was but in the one similar case they knew about the child passed on. I heard one of the doctors tell my parents that he had seen some healings in Christian Science. He said, "They believe that God heals." The next day when I was being given medicine I asked, "Why don't we let God heal me?"
My parents took me to a Christian Science practitioner that very day. She prayed for me and gave me one of Christ Jesus' statements to repeat (Matt. 15:13): "Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up." By the following day I was well and out playing in the snow.
My parents had been religious people, but their concept of God had caused them to be very fearful, and I had every so-called child's disease or problem they heard about. But through Christian Science our family gained the spiritual understanding that God is Love and fear can be overcome through trusting God, who is omnipotent and omnipresent. In the following seventeen years of school I was absent but three days.
