It would be sad to see a field of golden grain go unharvested for lack of laborers. More regrettable, though, is another scene which confronts us today. Christ Jesus described this kind of situation centuries ago. He said: "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." Matt. 9:37, 38;
Many students of Christian Science reading this familiar passage perhaps apply it to others, hoping they will respond to this higher call. But the place to begin—the first laborer to be concerned with—is always oneself.
Man is really the spiritual likeness of God. He exists to reflect the Father's business of doing good. And everyone—and this means each child, man, and woman— has endless opportunities to express in practical terms the spiritual qualities that in fact comprise his very nature. Each time we replace a false belief about our fellowman with the spiritual fact we help to separate the tares from the good wheat, which abides in everyone.
