The Main Purpose of Christian Science

From the June 1975 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A high school student had an experience that eventually changed her whole outlook on life. A few weeks before certain honors were to be announced, the teacher who was in charge of the awards unwisely told her she would receive one of them. But when they were announced, her name was not included. Before the teacher had told her, she had not thought much about the awards. But now she was quite disappointed.

When she got home, the girl, who was a Christian Scientist, took out her copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. She opened to page 66. Here she found a most illuminating answer to her problem in this quotation from Shakespeare and the following paragraph:

Sweet are the uses of adversity;
Which, like the toad, ugly and venomous,
Wears yet a precious jewel in his head.
