Christian Science was introduced to my parents when I was a child, following a very beautiful healing which occurred in our family through this Science. As we lived far from any branch church or Christian Science Society, I did not have the privilege of being a pupil in the Sunday School. However, my parents did their best to raise me in Christian Science, and because of this my whole childhood was free of illness, and my studies went very smoothly.
When I was finishing my higher education, I had my first opportunity to meet a Christian Science practitioner. At that time I knew very little of the letter of Science, but the practitioner replied to my numerous questions with unlimited patience. He helped me see that every moment of the day I could use the small understanding of Christian Science I had. He helped me understand that church activity would be a factor in my progress. Very soon I became a member of a branch church and thus learned more about putting Christian Science into practice.
One day when I was carrying out a chemistry experiment in front of my students, I upset a large quantity of smoking nitric acid on one of my hands. Immediately I affirmed God's allness and denied all sensation in matter. This firm and immediate negation of the error of the physical senses allowed me to continue my class in a normal way. When the class was over, I caught sight of my hand and saw blisters, which were beginning to run. I quickly rejected all my erroneous thoughts and denied the accident, so as to cling only to my identity as a perfect child of God, spiritual and expressing eternal harmony. One hour later the signs of the burn had disappeared. Only a yellow discoloration was left and that lasted only a few days.
