Truly my heart overflows with gratitude when I look back over fifty-five years of benefits I have received from my study of Christian Science. The understanding of God as my Life has sustained me many times during all these years. There have been healings of physical difficulties, and of deep sorrow when loved ones have gone on. My testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel of September 27, 1930, and since then I have had many more proofs of God's care.
Among our first healings in Christian Science was the healing of our two little sons of measles. At that time in the city where we lived there was an epidemic. One morning one son's body was covered with an ugly rash. I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, who agreed to pray for him. By late afternoon that same day the rash had almost disappeared, but the next morning the other son had broken out with a rash.
In the meantime, we had called the health department and reported the cases of measles. The practitioner had told me that we must be law-abiding. In about three days an officer came with a big quarantine card in his hand. By then both children were well, and I was so grateful for the healings I said to him, "We no longer have to be quarantined; the children are healed." He looked amazed and demanded to examine them, which he did thoroughly. Then he asked, "What has happened? They certainly have had the measles." When I told him that Christian Science treatment had been given he replied, "Well, it surely has done a clean job," and he added that we didn't need to post the big card on our door.
