True Parenthood

A husband received at his office a Mother's Day card from his wife inscribed, "Because you are such a good mother to me and to our children, I love you with all my heart."

Is it bold to assert that true motherhood is not just a matter of biological factors? Nor is true fatherhood. From Moses to Abraham Lincoln, men have mothered great causes. And women have fathered great causes, too, expressing strength in crises as well as during long tests of endurance.

What, then, is true parenthood? Christ Jesus defined it. "Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? . . . Whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." Matt.12:48, 50;
