I was raised in a family who are Christian Scientists, and I attended a Christian Science Sunday School. Although I grew up during the 1930's when lack of employment and income were common complaints, all our needs were met. So called childhood diseases were quickly healed through the application of Christian Science. The Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy were in regular use in our home.
Although I was very receptive to and happy with Christian Science teachings, most of my healings as a child resulted from the prayerful work done by others. While I benefited greatly from attending Sunday School, I did not have much need to apply independently what I had learned.
When I joined the United States Navy in the Second World War, I drifted away from the daily study of Christian Science. In the military environment I was tempted to "conform" and took up smoking and social drinking.
