Church in Action News and Announcements

Revitalization of a branch can begin with one member's rebirth

From the February 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A young man had completed Sunday School but had not gone on to church membership. After a while he felt that there was something lacking in his life.

The memory of what he had gained from his Sunday School experience was fresh, so he decided to join his branch church to regain what he thought he had lost.

He found, however, that the church's situation had become as dismal as his own. The membership had dwindled considerably, and the remaining members regarded the situation as almost hopeless. But the new member saw the rebirth of the church directly connected to his own rebirth. He saw "the structure of Truth and Love" Science and Health, p. 583; not as an organization, but as the basis on which to construct the whole of human life and to prove the government of God, Principle. And there were numerous opportunities to put this newfound understanding to the test.
