Mary Baker Eddy has written, "Of two things fate cannot rob us; namely, of choosing the best, and of helping others thus to choose" (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 165). Christian Science! That is my choice! And it has been mine since early childhood.
The Christian Science radio program account of my healing of cerebrospinal meningitis is recorded in the December 8, 1956, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel. There have been many healings since that time and many blessings. Our fellowman needs confirmation of his hope; he needs confidence and assurance. He needs to know that Christian Science does heal as Christ Jesus promised we should heal; that he can depend upon God's guidance; that God is truly the great Physician. And perhaps most of all, he needs to realize that God never uses adversity or suffering to draw His beloved children to His side. His love is sufficient to bring salvation to everyone. I'm so grateful, in this twenty-year interval between testimonies, to be learning and proving these things.
Six years ago my husband and I had several very active weeks working about the grounds of our country home in temperatures in the high 90's. We drove 135 miles to care for some business obligations. I had been in excellent health but within a very short time I became ill and lost consciousness. After several days my first really conscious recollection was of a dear friend's visit. She is a Christian Scientist. She sat at my bedside with Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy and read from the chapter, "Footsteps of Truth," which begins (p. 201), "The best sermon ever preached is Truth practised and demonstrated by the destruction of sin, sickness, and death."
