In a sermon entitled Christian Healing Mrs. Eddy tells us (pp. 15-16): "The Lord's Prayer, understood in its spiritual sense, and given its spiritual version, can never be repeated too often for the benefit of all who, having ears, hear and understand." It has been my joy to pray the Lord's Prayer in this way with very certain and beautiful results.
Perhaps the first outstanding healing experience through Christian Science alone was in the birth at home of a lovely baby girl. The medical faculty had declared this to be very dangerous, if not impossible, because of injuries to the pelvic bones I had sustained in an automobile accident. In compliance with state law, a medical doctor was employed for the time of delivery. A Christian Science practitioner was also praying for me, preparatory to the birth. During the months of joyful waiting I studied the chapter "Creation" in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and also acquainted myself with the references to obstetrics. A Christian Science nurse was also on hand at the time of the birth, and all worked out with great harmony for all.
In later years I was confronted with a very painful and baffling condition affecting the stomach and abdominal regions, which resulted in great loss of weight and weakness. By this time we had added another child to our family. It was most demanding on my strength to take care of my daily tasks, but through the help of a practitioner this was possible. At one point I asked her to give me something specific to turn to when in much distress, and she told me to read in Science and Health the last part of the chapter "Christian Science Practice," which involves a trial, an allegory illustrating Christian Science healing. This I managed to finally do, and I was permanently healed.
