Metaphysics and Christian Scientists

From the July 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many of us can remember vividly when we drew back the curtain of matter for the first time. We peered through and wondered at those broad vistas of Spirit, God— no longer obscured—that we glimpsed beyond matter. We began being metaphysicians from that very moment, applying healing spiritual law to human problems.

But are we still content with a curtained glimpse of reality, just one eye peering through a cautiously opened crack? We can all be better metaphysicians and healers by throwing the curtains right back and being engrossed in the world of Spirit.

Christian Science and divine metaphysics—spiritual law—are inseparable. Christian Scientists and divine metaphysics need to be inseparable. If we're to be more effective Scientists—if we're to draw back the curtain so wide that the healing light of the Science of Christ is more visible to us and to mankind—we must cease just glimpsing reality and learn what it means to be thoroughly submerged in it. To do so, we need to understand what metaphysics is. We need to see new aspects of Truth, and gain more assurance of its exactness, week by week and month by month.
