Inner regeneration prepares us

Getting Ready for a Healing

From the July 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"I'd like to tell about an instantaneous healing I had," a testifier said one Wednesday evening in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. "Actually," the woman continued, "it took me a year to get ready for it, but when it came—it was instantaneous."

Countless healings that follow the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science are instantaneous. But as many students of Christian Science can testify, whether a healing is quick or slow, the essence of the real healing is often in the "getting ready." Why is this so? Because getting ready for a healing means getting to know God better, as well as getting to know one's true spiritual identity. This can only be done by gaining a proper understanding of God's nature, of what He is and has done, and of what man, His image, truly is.

In Christian Science the outward evidence of physical improvement is the manifestation of inward regeneration. This Science shows that all human problems stem from misconceptions regarding God and His creation. Because these erroneous concepts deny God's perfect control of His universe, including man, they are classified in the language of Christian Science as error. These errors may be universally held theories, human opinions, or mere superstitions, but they all spring from the ignorant mortal belief that existence is material rather than spiritual.
