Discipline plus flexibility, but . . .

Healing Is Not by Formula

From the September 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science healing can never be taught or practiced as a formula. Every Christian Science treatment is deeply individual, not a predecided mental argument or stock set of things to "handle" on every occasion.

The human mind does not heal; God, infinite Mind, is the only healer, and God is not circumscribed. It would be presumptuous of us to believe we could humanly plan a healing.

The process of right reasoning—affirming God's allness and denying matter's claims —is often a help to the individual in attaining the altitude of receptivity that is a healing state of consciousness. But such reasoning should always be fresh, never formularized. We need to listen to divine Mind, be aware of its perfect government of the individual case. The heart of the issue in one case may not be the heart of the issue in another case.
