Testimonies of Healing

"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so...

From the September 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy" (Ps. 107:2). Over a period of many years I have been witnessing and experiencing the healing and liberating effects of Christian Science. Christian Science has freed me from mental, physical, and financial inharmonies.

When this Science was presented to me, I was suffering from a gallbladder condition. I was under a physician's care, visiting him periodically, but I was getting progressively worse. During one of these visits he said he was going to give me certain treatment and if that did not help, surgery would be necessary. On two separate occasions after that visit I was compelled to cancel my appointment with the physician due to unforeseen circumstances. I realized I was not having any more attacks. I had been reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. While I did not understand everything I read, the book had become my physician; fears were allayed, and I was able to eat all kinds of food without restriction. Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 152), "Truth has a healing effect, even when not fully understood." I attribute this healing solely to the reading of Science and Health.

During the Second World War my elder son was eager to serve in the armed forces but was afraid that due to a childhood condition he would be rejected. When he was called to appear for a physical examination, he voiced this fear. I reassured him of his perfect selfhood as a child of God, and that he could only be where God wants him to be. When he left for the examination, I asked a Christian Science practitioner to support me. I then picked up Science and Health and read until I came to the question (p. 256): "Who is it that demands our obedience? He who, in the language of Scripture, 'doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?' " A sweet sense of God's ever-presence assured me that all was well. Several hours later my son returned and told me he had passed the examination and was accepted. He served in the Air Corps for over two years and had many proofs of God's protection.
