Church in Action

One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, "Love thy neighbor as thyself; annihilates pagan and Christian idolatry,—whatever is wrong in social, civil, criminal, political, and religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 340)

Healing racism: an interview

From the November 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Branch church membership provides many opportunities for growth. One aspect of joining a branch church is the commitment to solve collective and relationship difficulties by spiritual means—to let spiritual law uncover and annul all that would try to obscure the human expression of true individuality.

For one man the challenge was racism. As members of a minority race, both he and his wife experienced various forms of discrimination. But with branch church membership they discovered that this was not a personal issue at all, but one that had to be healed for everyone. In the following interview, this businessman and lawyer explains how a spiritually scientific view of man enabled him to replace limited attitudes and opinions—his own and those held by others—with understanding and respect.

How would you define racism?
