Thanksgiving baskets

From the November 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It was Thanksgiving eve. With our houseguest, I had arrived early at church for the Wednesday evening testimony meeting. While we waited in the car, my friend wondered aloud why our church did not cancel the regular Wednesday meeting on the evening before our Thanksgiving service.

There I sat inwardly scolding myself because I wondered why, too. It was such a busy week for everyone! I prayed for an answer that would satisfy us and support both services.

A stir of activity at a church across the street attracted our attention. A group of people loaded several vans and buses with sacks and boxes, then boarded the vehicles and drove away.
