The keynote

From the November 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When one gains a spiritually based philosophy of life, many daily questions are answered and decisions are made with unburdened dispatch. Through a grasp of the nature of God and man's relationship to Him one can begin to perceive form, direction, definition, in his experience. He can begin to see the Christ, the divine idea, shaping his life.

Christ Jesus had such a basic direction in his career. He said, "I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." John 5:30; This keynote set the tone of his life and actions. Everything centered about this purpose, and his decisions were arrived at with clarity and distinctness. His life was God-centered, and this enabled him to cut out the extraneous, the superfluous, the diversions, the red herrings. He knew what he came to do, and all his actions were guided by this basic knowledge.

Is this simplistic in our modern day? It need not be. In spite of all the complications of our society, we can still come to some simple, direct conclusions that will help in all the decisions we make. What is the keynote of your life?
