Oneness

From the November 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is universal Spirit. He is one complete whole. Man is God's complete image or idea.

Being pure Spirit, God has no material elements; and His creation, including man, is also totally spiritual. God knows and sees man as perfect and complete. This true idea of God's creating, spiritual man, lacks nothing, since he reflects God's wholeness and completeness.

Problems arise because we entertain a material sense of being and fail to recognize our divine source and our constant oneness with God. The truth that God, Spirit, has created man as His completely spiritual expression dissolves the belief that man's substance, being, and uniqueness can be circumscribed in the protoplasm called a body, and this truth heals disease. Man, the idea of Life and Love, can no more be enclosed in matter than the idea of liberty can be encased in the Statue of Liberty. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." And later on she adds: "Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science. Man is idea, the image, of Love; he is not physique."
