Testimonies of Healing

In the very early years of this century...

From the December 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the very early years of this century, my paternal grandmother became completely helpless with rheumatoid arthritis. The doctor, called in by my father, gave her a very short time to live. She was brought to our home to be cared for, and a nurse was engaged. Grandmother was a class-taught student of Christian Science, and a wonderful healing took place with the prayer of her teacher. Within six months my grandmother was living in her own home, well, and she continued to do so for many years, engaging in the practice of Christian Science.

I was brought up to have real trust in the love of God and the power of prayer. In spite of this evidence of the healing power of Christian Science, however, my parents continued to attend the Methodist Church.

Some years later, after my father's death, my mother and I became Christian Scientists. I had begun my professional life, and I was called upon to prove the truth of what I was learning. I had healings of jaundice and of a badly infected thumb. A new phase of my career opened up, and I became a member of The Mother Church and of a Christian Science Society. This was in 1943. Slowly at first, with the help of a practitioner and sometimes through my own growing understanding, many difficulties were resolved, unhappy traits of character were healed, and lovely opportunities opened for me.
