It has been many years since my testimony appeared in the Journal of June 1959. Since then I have reared a family of three children. We have had wonderful proofs of God's goodness and protection. Among the healings in our family have been those of colds, fever, measles, mumps, a broken ankle, and a quick healing of severe cuts and gashes when my young daughter fell through a glass door. Although, in the latter instance, the symptoms were alarming, any temptation to have the wounds closed by surgical stitches was silenced. I had the firm conviction that nothing can exceed God's power to maintain His creation intact when I read these words from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 242): "The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent." I knew that I must be consistent in my complete reliance on Christian Science for healing. Within hours most of the cuts were closing beautifully, and within a few days complete healing had taken place. I am grateful for the Christian Science practitioner who helped us during that time.
My husband had passed on when my youngest children, twins, were less than a year old. My older son was two and a half. My income was limited, and one concern was that I would not be able to send the children to college. I had not attended college myself, but I considered a college education important. When I mentioned my fears to a practitioner she picked up a copy of Science and Health, saying, "If you understood one fifth of what is in this book you would have all the education you would ever need to meet every conceivable life problem." She agreed with me that higher education might be quite appropriate and pointed out many passages in Science and Health relating to this subject. She also assured me that opportunities for learning would open up for me as well as for my children.
Our conversation left me joyful and free from worry and fear for the future. I knew that I could be blessed by every right idea, including education of the right sort. I immediately began a more thorough study of Science and Health, because I realized my real need was for spiritual education and progress. Within a year or so a way had opened for me to move to another city and enroll my children in a fine school. All three attended the lower, middle, and upper schools, and the twins graduated from the college. The older boy spent two years at the college before he joined the Army.
