Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was truly guided by God to include in the Manual of The Mother Church this requirement (Art. VIII, Sect. 13): "Every member of The Mother Church shall pay annually a per capita tax of not less than one dollar, which shall be forwarded each year to the Church Treasurer."
For many years I was opposed to sending any money other than my annual dollar to The Mother Church in Boston. My excuse had been, "Why send money there, to erect new buildings, when our branch church has to make do with an old building that is always needing substantial repairs?"
With these thoughts, I had no desire to visit the Christian Science Center in Boston. I felt this would be like making a pilgrimage to glorify the buildings. Three years ago my wife expressed a desire to visit The Mother Church again. She had been there before we met. Very reluctantly I agreed to accompany her, not knowing that on this trip I was due for a complete change of thought; also that I was to have a wonderful healing through the love of God.
