In seeking professional help, we all want the best available. No one wants to go to a quack, an ignorant pretender to knowledge or skill in any field. So, in the healing practice of scientific Christianity thorough competence through precise, accurate knowledge and clear understanding are required of the healer.
Christian Science heals because it is the law of God. It interprets the divine law of universal harmony, with which God forever embraces His man. Although God's law may seem to be ignored, neglected, or even forgotten by mortals, it cannot really be broken nor even bent! Rooted in Principle, divine law forever governs, sustains, and proclaims the universe of Spirit—a universe of joy, perfection, and harmony, of justice, wisdom, and intelligence. God's law, the Christ Science, touches and heals humanity through its application.
Any science by definition is exact. One who is professionally employing scientific method understands the science in question and rigorously observes its rules. Deviation from any rule results in failure. Similarly, in the practice of Christian Science its fundamental truths must be well understood and every rule vigilantly observed. An unwitting or ignorant departure from the spiritual fact of God's allness and the perfection of His creation, man, and the impossibility of life and intelligence in matter, would introduce erroneous premises and result in what Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of this Science, calls mental quackery: "It is mental quackery to make disease a reality—to hold it as something seen and felt—and then to attempt its cure through Mind."
