Before learning of Christian Science, I did not read the Bible, because I didn't understand it. It became comprehensible to me through Mrs. Eddy's great book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Through reading this I learned how the Master, Christ Jesus, taught. Thus the Bible became an open book to me. I humbly thank God for all His lovingkindnesses to me and my family in the more than forty-three years of our study of Christian Science. I can recommend to everyone who has problems or would like to understand God better that he earnestly study this Science. It enables us to perceive the new man and to put off the old man with his deeds. Then the man created in God's image is manifested.
My father suffered with a stomach complaint for thirteen years before my parents knew of Christian Science. Although he consulted various doctors and tried different healing methods, nothing helped him. When he was near starvation, a friend, who had been healed in Christian Science of a cancerous foot condition, came to visit him. He told my father, "You, too, can look into this Science; it will certainly help you." My father accepted this, had treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, and was healed within three weeks. He lived for another thirty-five years—well and happy, with no recurrence of the illness.
After my father's healing, I was very happy about his progress in spiritual understanding. I loved to talk with him about Science, which I wanted to study so much. At my husband's recommendation, I rode eighteen kilometers on horseback to the village where the practitioner lived. What he explained to me of God's presence and love was so beneficial that that day I was healed of suicidal torment, which had plagued me for three years. I was also freed from the use of medicine.
