Over the past twenty years I have had many evidences of God's loving care, all proving the truth of Christian Science. In Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy tells us (p. 359), "The way is absolute divine Science: walk ye in it; but remember that Science is demonstrated by degrees, and our demonstration rises only as we rise in the scale of being."
I was away from home when I suddenly felt severe pain from the top of my head to my feet. At first I thought, "This is it" and fully expected to drop to the floor. But I had no fear. As I reached out to God, these words of Mrs. Eddy's were recalled (Science and Health, p. 487),"Life is the origin and ultimate of man, never attainable through death, but gained by walking in the pathway of Truth both before and after that which is called death." I rejoiced over the concept of walking "in the pathway of Truth," then realized I had not fainted or fallen. I managed to reach home and get to my books. There were a few days of extreme weakness, but complete healing followed my intensive study of the Bible and Science and Health.
Another healing came as a happy surprise. This past January I had been studying with a fervent gratitude that was with me hour after hour of every day. It was a period of wonderful peace, deep joy, and dedicated prayer. I thought often of Christ Jesus' statement in the Bible (Luke 10:23, 24): "Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: for I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them." In February I discovered that a foot condition had been healed. For months my feet had been broken out, cracked, and sore. Now the skin was clear and smooth again. My gratitude was profound for yet another healing, resulting from the study of this Science.
