There's a vast difference between the man found in the revelation of divine Science and the human personality observed with the physical senses. Mrs. Eddy frequently uses the phrase "in Science" when describing the man God created, as in this statement: "Christ Jesus reckoned man in Science, having the kingdom of heaven within him. He spake of man not as the offspring of Adam, a departure from God, or His lost likeness, but as God's child." Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 8;
As a Scientist, Christ Jesus is unsurpassed. He understood God's nature and His law thoroughly, adhered to God, divine Principle, and gave proof of his understanding over and over again. Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the Science underlying his example enables any faithful student to gain an understanding of man in Science and demonstrate that understanding.
If we are to reach this scientific understanding of man, we need to be Scientists—with a capital S. Whether we're new or longtime students of Christian Science, reading our textbooks with the goal of ever-deepening understanding is a very necessary part of our work; from these textbooks—the inspired Scriptures, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—we learn of man in his inseparable relationship with God and how to put this understanding to practical use. The Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly give us an invaluable plan for daily study. Mrs. Eddy's other writings also give us insight into man's true nature. The Christian Science publications provide a wonderful opportunity to read what fellow Christian Scientists have perceived and proved for themselves, and to share with others our new views of man.
