Because God, the creator of the universe, is the divine governing intelligence, He includes all evidence of Life and controls that evidence. Growth, then, is governed by God, and is not material but spiritual. There is no growth apart from God, any more than there is life separate from God.
In the Bible, in Genesis, we read, "These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew." Gen. 2:4, 5; In referring to these verses, Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Here is the emphatic declaration that God creates all through Mind, not through matter,—that the plant grows, not because of seed or soil, but because growth is the eternal mandate of Mind." Science and Health, p. 520;
If God is accepted as the only creator, and "growth is the eternal mandate of Mind," then growth is good. There can be no bad or imperfect growth, any more than there can be a bad or imperfect God.
