My first healing in Christian Science was of a longstanding condition of warts on my feet and under my fingernails. This occurred in the late 1940's after I left a Christian Science lecture with an awareness that we are living the eternal life now. With this glimpse that spiritual man reflects the divine Life, I suddenly had a conviction that the condition was healed. From that point the warts dried up and fell away, leaving no scars. Since then I have not had a recurrence of this trouble, nor of calluses on the soles of my feet. I was not a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, at that time, but this healing was one of the reasons I applied for membership in 1950. Since then I have had many other healings.
I was preserved from serious injury when I was thrown from my car as it collided with a dump truck. I had only a few bruises, and after a couple of hours at home I returned to work. A Christian Science practitioner prayed for me. The owner of the truck had no insurance and was unable to pay for the damage to my car, which amounted to more than half its original cost. But an unexpected sum of money came in, which more than covered the bill. The car was repaired quickly, and we had a wonderful vacation trip in the full glory of New England fall colors.
One autumn we took a three weeks tour overseas. At one point I had symptoms of flu, which worsened for three days. My wife and I both prayed to heal this. On the third day I suddenly felt much better and was completely recovered the following day. Later in the trip I suffered from dysentery. Again, I seemed to grow worse for two days and, again, we both prayed to see man's true freedom as the spiritual idea of divine Mind. When the condition was at its worst, the mesmerism suddenly broke, and the healing was soon complete.
