What Mrs. Eddy envisioned for us

From the April 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mary Baker Eddy discerned profound possibilities for those who fully understand the Science of Christianity she discovered. What she saw was impelled by Mind. When we allow divine Mind to give us vision, we will grasp in some measure the possibilities Mrs. Eddy foresaw. Only when our views are increasingly shaped by spiritual qualities will we envision a capacity to put off mortality entirely and wholly demonstrate the perfection of being.

When, for instance, we truly identify ourselves with the peace that comes from God, we feel an inner calm, a stillness, freeing our view from the distortions that fear or uncertainty would bring. Purity, integrity, wisdom, all enhance our spiritual vision because they come from omnipotent Spirit. They give us clarity, insight. When, through humility, we surrender to divine qualities, letting them become the substance of our thought, we begin to see more of man's pure and perfect relationship to God.

There is always a need for vision when difficulties are encountered during this spiritual awakening. Pioneers in all areas of achievement have often needed strong vision. When the going got tough, they needed a wider perspective—one that enabled them to see the possibilities beyond the obstacles. As metaphysical pioneers, we find that our spiritual vision, molded by divine attributes, will give us courage and carry us past obstructions that would interfere with our spiritual journey.
