Truth, not personal influence, heals

From the April 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Anyone who loves Christian Science longs to practice true, spiritual healing. And this is possible, because the Christ—the ever-present idea of God—is with us, showing us the scientific method of the Christ-cure.

Sometimes the prayer of a Christian Scientist is ineffective because it rests on a personal, limited, human level. The individual giving treatment may consider himself to be a rather good person, metaphysically treating someone else who needs to be a better person.

Yet Mrs. Eddy, who understood how Jesus cured people, taught that true healing is not accomplished through the human mind, nor does it originate in personal goodness.
