Christian Science came into my life when I was a young adult. The first article I read on Science was in a pamphlet. The statements contained in it were of a nature that had never been brought to my attention before. I had been raised in a strict, orthodox Protestant home, but the ideas put forth in this pamphlet were so revolutionary that I was immediately convinced Christian Science was the truth.
A short time after I read that article, my shoulder slipped out of joint. For several years, it would slip out of joint whenever I lifted something fairly heavy. Trying to get this problem corrected through various medical channels hadn't worked out satisfactorily at all, and the cost of the different procedures had become a considerable financial burden. One fellow worker remarked about the necessity of getting a chiropractic adjustment. But by now the thought of spiritual adjustment had taken root in my consciousness.
I spent a short time thinking about the spiritual truths in the Christian Science pamphlet I'd read, and then forgot all about the condition. A few days later I remembered the problem and realized, with great gratitude, that the shoulder had been in place ever since those few moments of prayer. It has never slipped out of joint again—no matter how heavy an object has been that I've picked up—and that was over twenty-five years ago.
