Proselytizing, witnessing, sharing

From the May 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Most who have experienced the "amazing grace" celebrated in the old gospel hymn love to share the experience.

How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

the song reminds us. Precious indeed are the times — the first and the many, many subsequent ones — when our hearts feel the deep conviction that God is real, alive, and near. And as we gain further glimpses of the nature of God, and understand something of Christ Jesus' own unique life and mission, as well as what he teaches us to be and do, we naturally want others to participate in this joy. But if we really recognize the preciousness of what we may call conversion experiences, we will be circumspect indeed both in how we share the Christian message and also in what we allow to be poured into our own open hearts and minds.
