Ascending

From the April 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Yearning to live beyond earth's limitations in
Spirit's limitless reality,
I let my thoughts soar rocket-like through cosmic arcs.
Mentally I vault space-time, neutralize gravity (eyes alight),
Envision Love's gathering power in spiritual galaxies
alive with forms.
(It must be wonderful!)

Then ... I remember
I can't go anywhere yet.
Too many things in need of healing,
All sorts of annoyances to unkindle my flame, dock my rocket,
keep me earthbound.
Detours ... detours ... detours
(I guess I have to wait to take off until after my redemption).

Then in prayer (even through the roar of my rocket) I hear
another sound.
Not self, but Christ this time (the true, the God-idea of what I am)
is kindling thoughts deep within.
Gentle, quiet, but the message comes through loud and clear:
A physical healing brought about, or limitation overcome,
through prayer alone
Each demonstrated proof of matter's nothingness
suspends space-time
travels faster than light-speed
silences DNA chain
comets through and rends all earthly veils and Adam mists.
And from the smoldering ashes of materialism
(day by redeemed day) human consciousness rises purified,
Ascending.
