Can we be simpler and yet more profound in observing Easter? There is a way; it involves learning and proving that Christ is with us here, right now.
Christians believe that Christ Jesus' resurrection gave evidence of eternal life. This is a healing view, because belief in immortality improves the quality of society in countless ways, easing at least somewhat the fear of mortality and the pettiness that accompanies it.
But more than once Jesus encouraged all who believe on him actually to follow him in demonstration of eternal life. The Bible records this in simple, direct language. Here's one example: "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it." Luke 9:23, 24. To follow such directions is truly profound.
