Christ Jesus' love of God was perfect, complete. As no other man did, he embodied the good he understood to be God's own expression, the Son of God. The Saviour honored Spirit as Life, Mind, substance, by progressively demonstrating Spirit's dominion over matter until he attained the exalted consciousness that God is, indeed, All. This triumph of Spirit, this elevated, God-created, pure consciousness, produced what we call the ascension.
Every day you and I are presented with opportunities to prove our love of God and to gain a higher understanding and appreciation of God's presence, nature, and power. We demonstrate our worship of God in our devotion to and reverence for Spirit. As Jesus said, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24. Proving the presence and the power of spiritual good and rejoicing in our victories over the material and mortal, we will find the spiritual becoming more and more real to our ascending thought.
Jesus' mission was to save the world from sin and to demonstrate his divine origin. His ministry helped others on the way to their ascension, their full recognition of spiritual sonship. Appreciating the power of divine good and understanding his origin to be in Spirit, he demonstrated the coincidence of the divine and human and fulfilled the divine purpose. As Mary Baker Eddy writes of Jesus: "We learn somewhat of the qualities of the divine Mind through the human Jesus. The power of his transcendent goodness is manifest in the control it gave him over the qualities opposed to Spirit which mortals name matter." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 199.
