Stumbling block or steppingstone?

From the April 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Which shall I choose to use?
The choice is mine.
I can decline
to stumble, even when rubble
of trouble seems to place
an adamant, stubborn stone
before my face.

With footsteps firm and sure
I can endure,
persist—even insist
on cheering
in spite of stone's appearing,
use it to lift myself
to higher level,
revel in trampling down
its spurious claim,
aim to replace its lie of solidity
with Mind-based rock
of healing, Christlike clarity.
