The healing effect of goodness

From the June 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many hunger for good. But what, really, is enduring good? Mrs. Eddy answers this when she cites as the real Christian Scientist's constant declaration: "Good is my God, and my God is good. Love is my God, and my God is Love." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 206.

Man created in God's likeness reflects infinite, divine good and expresses good in goodness. But how do we achieve good?

A study of the word "good" with the aid of the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's writings both awakens and enlightens. Such a study is sure to spiritualize our concept of good. The many references for this little word show the stress Christian Science puts on a spiritual understanding of good. Every time one acknowledges good he is acknowledging God. Every time we allow good to outshine evil tendencies, the very presence of God works in our lives. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy declares, "Evil is destroyed by the sense of good." Science and Health, p. 311.
