Reality, as revealed by Christian Science, is the state of flawless spiritual being, made and known by God, Spirit. In this perfect realm of oneness and wholeness, only good is present or active; and man, God's likeness, is inseparable from God, is the very manifestation of His immortal nature. Since, as the Bible declares, there is none beside God,See Deut. 4:39. this divine state of being is all that really exists or can exist.
Although this perfection is now everywhere present, it does not appear so to erring, human sense, which believes there is something besides God and opposite to Him, called sin, evil, sickness, and mortality. This believing does not change reality, for the real remains forever intact. But humanity sees the reality of God's perfect creation through a cloud of false beliefs, appearing as matter, material conditions, and changing human events.
Christian Science explains that these beliefs and all the errors they include are unknown to God, divine Mind, and therefore should not be accepted as real. They are would-be opposites of God, good, who is All. Mrs. Eddy explains, "The feasibility and immobility of Christian Science unveil the true idea,— namely, that earth's discords have not the reality of Mind in the Science of being; and this idea—dematerializing and spiritualizing mortals—turns like the needle to the pole all hope and faith to God, based as it is on His omnipotence and omnipresence." No and Yes, p. 10. In the measure that we let divine Science interpret God's being, the density of belief in what appears to hide reality will thin out. The spiritual view lifts the curtain on what God is eternally knowing of His creation and thus progressively brings changes on the human scene. But spiritual reality itself is not touched by changing events. If Spirit—real being—were ever mixed with its opposite, matter, it would cease to be reality.
