After I began the study of Christian Science, my life was radically transformed. In two years I joined a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and a little later, The Mother Church.
Before knowing anything about this Science, I was ill with tuberculosis of the lungs. A distant relative, who was visiting us from Brownsville, Texas, heard of my plight. She was a Christian Scientist, and she gave me a book called Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, suggesting that if I read it I could be healed. (I was at that time waiting for a bed in a sanitarium, as our family doctor had said that he could do no more for me.)
After my relative left about ten o'clock in the evening, I sat at the kitchen table and began to read the book. It was a revelation to me, and I especially liked what I was learning about God. (During my childhood days, many times I had asked my mother about God, but she had had no satisfying answers. Later, in my young adulthood, I had found no satisfaction in various religions and churches.)
