Poems

Consider . . .

From the September 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

the lilies.
Which lilies?
All far-flung flowers,
as many as stars—
garden lilies
with chaliced heads,
hillside lilies
with stems like threads,
all colors, kinds, sizes.

Consider
how Jesus
loved them, to let them
tell his parable.
Their hardy grace
far-flung as stars,
in every place
as different—as different—
yet perfect, important,
all one in the sun.

Consider
the loveliness
then of men,
in every place
like sparks of stars!
Their far-flung grace
as different—as different—
yet important, all one,
when seen in God's image.
Each shows forth His Son.
