CHURCH IN ACTION

ACTION IN THE FIELD

From the December 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Reports from branch churches sent in especially for use at the 1985 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church indicated steady spiritual progress in many churches around the world. Only a few reports from branches could be used at the meeting, so others have been selected for publication in this issue. And a few more will appear individually next year.

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Kimberley, South Africa, reports: This town, which in its heyday bustled with diamond miners and their boisterous life, is now sedate and enjoys only moderate activity. The white population is about 23 percent of the total.

Over the past year or so we have attracted a few new people, black and white, who regularly attend services. A black youth and a black school principal have become members; and black children form the predominant number in our Sunday School.
