Guarding our sacred relationship with God

From the December 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Jesus was betrayed and arrested, he said to his accusers, "This is your hour, and the power of darkness."Luke 22:53. Christ Jesus could read the signs of the times. The religious and political climate was charged with hatred and tension as authorities in both groups cooperated in acts that would lead to the Master's crucifixion. Yet in that hour of darkness, Christ Jesus did not cease to love God supremely, nor to care deeply for his fellowman. Great light, joy, and triumph came to him and to this earth because of his obedience, integrity, and love.

Do we, perhaps, live in similarly dark times today? There are a growing number of Christians who doubt or even deny that Jesus rose bodily from the grave. Government seems to be rejecting spiritual healing by seeking to impose medicine as the single method of sustaining health. As modern disciples of Christ Jesus, how can we not only withstand the darkness of the hour but participate in Love's deliverance?

Christian Science shows us the way. Its clear insights into the life of Christ Jesus enable us to understand what God is and our indestructible relationship to Him. As both Christianity and Science, it is not mere theory or blind doctrine, but is the utterance of divine Truth to humanity.
