Writing for the periodicals

From the April 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A metaphysical article should have a specific central focus or theme. This is the core of the discussion, and everything else should elaborate or develop it. One way to ensure that the idea is focused enough is to try to summarize it in a sentence or two. Narrower themes are generally more effective because they are more specific. For instance, a theme like "the allness of Soul" would be very challenging to handle in the space available. But some aspect of this theme—for example, your understanding that the allness of Soul brings protection—could well make an effective article. Choose a theme that you have truly lived with and demonstrated, and you will find the words flow more easily.
