How's your progress?

From the April 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you satisfied with your progress? Or are you, like many people, having a struggle to feel that you're getting anywhere at all?

Every individual has a yearning to progress, and many people actively strive to do so. Yet despite all our efforts we may feel thwarted. Even our devoted study and prayer in Christian Science sometimes leave us feeling we are working very hard but without results. Why this frustration in the face of our best efforts? And what can we do about it? Perhaps the most important thing is to recognize that something can be done. And a good place to begin is with our definition of progress.

What is progress really? For a practical answer, let's consider Mrs. Eddy's statement "Progress is spiritual. Progress is the maturing conception of divine Love; it demonstrates the scientific, sinless life of man and mortal's painless departure from matter to Spirit, not through death, but through the true idea of Life,—and Life not in matter but in Mind." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 181.
