Understanding infinity

From the April 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Understanding infinity is far more than an abstract intellectual exercise. It can be a form of Christian Science treatment, which brings healing.

Even thinking about infinity can seem very difficult, largely because of our stubbornly materialistic and erroneous belief in our own finitude. Reinforced by the predominant world view, this suggestion would tell us that since we are limited, so is everything else. If we accept the belief of finiteness, we are in danger of cutting ourselves off from an abiding sense of God's allness and of the healing presence of Christ, infinite Truth.

Christ Jesus understood God's allness more clearly than any other man. He spoke of infinity metaphorically rather than directly when he said, "In my Father's house are many mansions." John 14:2. Yet his grasp of infinity was the very basis of his thought, and his understanding of the all-encompassing might of God was both cause and substance of the healings he brought about.
