I have had the advantage of studying...

From the July 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have had the advantage of studying Christian Science since childhood, and I have relied on it entirely for healing and for meeting my needs. I recall with deep feeling the answering of one need a few years ago. The Bible tells us (Isa. 65:24): "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."

One morning on my walk to work I stumbled over a piece of loose concrete and fell headlong, throwing both hands out in front of me to break the fall. Afterward, except for a torn stocking and bruised knee, I seemed to be all right. I went on to work and put in a usual busy day. Toward the end of the afternoon, however, I began to have some discomfort in both wrists, and by the time I reached home that evening, I could not turn the doorknob without extreme pain. After several attempts, and using both hands, I finally did open the door and get inside. Then came the task of trying to undress.

I could not unsnap a snap, unzip a zipper, or pick up anything. As I sat down, feeling utterly helpless, all I seemed able to do was reach out in deep humility and sincerity to the divine power of Truth. Shortly the telephone rang. The phone was on a table beside the bed. Somehow I was able to push the receiver onto a pillow and lie down beside it to answer. The call was from a friend—a Christian Science practitioner—who didn't call very often but said she had felt led to do so then. After I explained my situation, she shared some powerful spiritual truths and agreed to pray for me.
