One day I was on the balance beam in gymnastics class doing a forward roll, when all of a sudden I fell off. My hand went between two mats, and I heard a big crack in my wrist. I tried to climb back up on the beam, but I couldn't because my wrist hurt so much. I told my instructor about my wrist, and he called home for me. Then my mom came and picked me up.
On the way home, my mom sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal and talked to me about God and how Christian Science could heal my wrist. When my dad came home, he called a Christian Science practitioner, who asked me to read two paragraphs from page 237 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy [see lines 1-14]. It's about a little girl who had badly wounded her finger, but who was quickly healed by her receptivity to Truth. After I read the paragraphs several times, I went into my room to think about them. About an hour later I remembered my wrist, and was able to move it freely. I went into the living room to show my dad that it was healed.
A few months later I went skiing and fell on an icy mound on the ski slope. When I first fell I was really frightened. Then I thought about God being with me always. My mom was there, and we sang the Shepherd hymn together [Hymn No. 304—" 'Feed My Sheep' "—with words by Mrs. Eddy]. It helped me not be so afraid. After the ski patrol took me to the first-aid room, my mom asked me if I wanted to rely on Christian Science and I said "yes." I knew it would be OK and safe because we had had Christian Science help before when my wrist was hurt and for other healings.
