Through the study of Christian Science...

Through the study of Christian Science I am learning of God's power—even a slight understanding of which is sufficient to heal. The healings I've experienced have awakened in me a growing appreciation of God's love for man.

I am especially grateful that it does not require untold years of study or experience to begin practicing Christian Science healing. Love for God and a willingness to identify oneself as His image and likeness, and to live from this premise, provide the groundwork upon which one may start healing. An example of this is an experience I had as a new student of Christian Science. I was in college at the time and had an especially heavy academic load, including thirteen papers that had to be written in one semester.

At the halfway mark, and with several midterm exams at hand, I was already several papers behind and had not been able to keep up with my studying or other classwork. Then a painful abscess developed in my mouth, which not only interfered with eating but with working as well. Exhausted and discouraged, I reached out one night in prayer; and as I lay in bed, a melody started playing in thought. Although I did not recognize the tune, it had a hymnlike quality, so I began searching the Christian Science Hymnal for it. It was Hymn No. 49, and the words of the last stanza met my need exactly:
