A conversation about sharing Christian Science

From the April 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I've been so tremendously blessed by the teachings of Christian Science that I would love to share this blessing with others. But today there seem to be so many people with strong religious beliefs that sometimes I find myself tempted to believe it would be "wiser and safer" to avoid telling people about Christian Science.

The fact is that we should always stand ready to tell people about Christian Science when God guides us to do so. Actually, we should conscientiously pray for and seek opportunities every single day to tell someone about it. After all, in other areas of life we recognize our responsibility to share with friends and associates the best of whatever we have. If we see a good movie, we recommend it to others. It is unquestionably right to tell our receptive friends about Christian Science in the spirit of kindness and brotherly love.

There was a prominent Frenchman who was concerned about the consequences of sharing his religion. He had been converted to Protestantism and was afraid to admit so publicly. In recounting his experience Mrs. Eddy writes: "He replied to his wife, who urged him to come out and confess his faith, 'It is wise to count the cost of becoming a true Christian.' She answered him, 'It is wiser to count the cost of not becoming a true Christian.'"
