"My cup runneth over" (Ps. 23:5) conveys...

From the April 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"My cup runneth over" (Ps. 23:5)conveys my gratitude for the many blessings I have received since my last testimony was published in 1978.

In the late summer of 1979 I talked with a Christian Science practitioner about companionship and marriage. I was not doing much dating at the time and felt somewhat left out, since my closest girlfriends had fairly busy social schedules. I mentioned to the practitioner that I had a mental list of qualities I was looking for in a husband and tended to "size up" everyone I met by that criterion. Needless to say, the individuals all fell short in my eyes.

The practitioner gently pointed out to me that while it was fine to know what qualities I especially appreciated and was looking for, I needed to realize that all of God's children express all of His qualities. She recommended I work on expressing these qualities more myself and then I would naturally see them in those whom I met.
