I will always be grateful to my father for introducing me to Christian Science by enrolling me in a Christian Science Sunday School. I enjoyed attending but did not fully appreciate at the time the impact those early lessons would have or realize that what I was learning would remain with me as a tremendous support in life.
In later years, after I married, I had the wonderful experience of Christian Science class instruction. That experience, together with the daily study of the Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) and reading the Christian Science periodicals, was a strength and support in raising three active children. As a family we attended church together and enjoyed many healings of both physical and financial difficulties.
One particular healing took place several years ago. On the way to my office one morning I stopped to visit a friend. Afterward, as I hurried to make up the time spent in the visit, I slipped on some marble steps and fell. I heard a loud snap as I twisted my foot in trying to regain my balance. As people rushed to help me I assured them I was all right. I quickly acknowledged the fact of man's spiritual perfection. I was able to walk from the building, although something felt very different in my foot. I also felt a sense of regret and self-condemnation at not having gone directly to my office.
